PEC conducts the closure of out-of-use or leaking aboveground or underground storage tanks (ASTs or USTs) as required due to roadway expansions, discovery during construction, regulatory agency requirements, or site upgrading. Two methods, excavation and removal or closure in place (filling the tank with an inert material), can accomplish closure of USTs. All AST and UST closures are conducted in conjunction with FDEP, local municipality, and fire department regulations.
As an integral part of a system or a system component closure performed at an UST facility, PEC will prepare and submit a Closure Report or Limited Closure Report, as appropriate, to the state or county program as required by the applicable regulations. All closure assessment instructions are carefully followed to reduce regulatory comments which may lead to additional site work.
